25 Amazing Front Walkway Ideas with Images

walkway design

You can craft simple walkway ideas from any type of pathway material. Place concrete, natural stone, gravel, and wood in simple configurations. For a simple modern path, lay two sizes of circular concrete pavers between your driveway and your front door. For a more structured look, place a row of square or rectangular slate pavers in a straight line.

Go with gravel

Chairs near front door walkways offer spots to catch up with neighbors, take off shoes, and enjoy the neighborhood scenery. But be careful not to overwhelm your walkway with a too-large chair—less is more in this scenario. Pair it with your favorite plant and an outdoor rug for a perfectly put-together look. Your walkway's main purpose is to provide a way to navigate your outdoor space, but that's not its only purpose. Your walkway can also provide a focal point for your eye to follow and direct your attention to the "main event," like your home's exterior or garden.

Try Interlocking Concrete Pavers

Of course, you don't have to try to make your walkway as unique as possible. You can go for a modern, industrial look by embracing and leaning into the drab look of concrete. Echo concrete elsewhere in your home, like on its exterior or flooring, and take care of your concrete to make sure it always looks its best. Your walkway doesn't only need to be a haven for your in-ground plants—it can also be a home for your potted ones! Potted plants are the perfect solutions for walkways that don't have planting space or don't get enough light to support sun-loving flora.

There has to be harmony and balance between the walkway and your home. They are relatively durable when placed on top of any landscape fabric to prevent weeds from growing. Pebbles and Gravel need to be edged with stones or rocks to keep them in place. The light tone of the stain is an ideal fit to highlight the bright colors of the flowering shrubs surrounding the walkway. The concrete stamping adds details to the concrete defining a great design. The combination of pavers in white and stones in grey in different shapes and sizes are not only fun to make but also pleasing to the eye.

A Pretty Path

Concrete pavers can be used for driveways, patios, or walkways and are durable and good looking. Knowing which style to choose for your particular job is crucial, so check out our overview of styles, and our other materials guide. A long-lasting patio is a lot like a smooth paint job—it’s all about the prep work.

Simple Front Walkway

The space in between your stone walkway can be filled with a number of things, including grout, grass, or pea gravel. But you can think a little bigger too—add river pebbles or similarly medium-sized stones to fill the gaps in between the pavers. Integrating walkway landscaping with your garden design creates a harmonious and unified outdoor space. Select materials and colors that complement your existing garden features. Use plants to soften the edges of the walkway, creating a seamless transition between the path and the surrounding flora.

Might all the seashells, pebbles, and sea glass you’ve amassed over the years become a part of your landscape? This creative collector did just that, making molds out of plywood and Quick-Tube (a product intended for building columns). A pebble mosaic in a motif of your own invention makes for a truly unique walkway. Materials may come at no cost if you collect them from a riverbed or beach (they can also be purchased at a stone yard). So should you need to cut down trees or do some major pruning on your property, why let that earthy beauty go to waste?

A Dirt Pathway

Want to continue your walkway without installing more flagstone? Flagstone walkways look all the better when they are installed alongside lush plant life, as the entryway to Dazey Den's home demonstrates. Add small plants that fit in the gaps of the stones and taller ones to border the walkway for the best look.

She’s never met a plant she didn’t like and, consequently, she writes about every type of plant you can think of. Once an avid gardener with a herb garden, a succulent rockery, and a rose garden – to mention a few. A fantastic front walkway can increase the curb appeal and value of your property.

Building your walkway in sections will let you easily handle any changes in elevation. This herringbone pattern was built using red bricks, creating a unique and elegant effect from something quite simple. This low-cost but eye-catching pattern can be accomplished by simply painting your pavement slabs.

A stone bench complements the color and style of the materials in the path. A trio of Japanese maples provides visual texture; once full-grown, they'll create a delightful canopy over the path. Ornamental grasses, selected for their deep shade of green and unfussy form, play off the contemporary design. This understated front entrance walkway landscaping perfect front yard design for this home's modern lines. A short retaining wall bridges the divide between the path and yard. Laying down wooden planks throughout the lawn is a cheap and straightforward alternative for creating a new walkway on a tiny (or non-existent!) budget.

It's a great way to define and highlight your home and bring style to your outdoor space. Walls and fences are natural spaces to place a flagstone walkway. They offer a convenient route through a property, and their location near a border gives them purpose, rather than just being a random walkway. It is also one of the easiest and least expensive walkway ideas to DIY. In most cases, you simply remove the sod, cover the ground with landscape fabric, and spread the gravel.

Rococo Interior Design Definition, History & Characteristics Lesson

rococo interior design

Parquet can be replaced with laminate imitating wood, but linoleum should be abandoned. Freed from the solemnity of the palace halls, the French moved to private mansions, enjoying a calm, measured life there. Motifs in the Rococo were always organic, featuring not only seashells but leaves, vines, birds, animals, and flowers. These motifs were found delicately carved into furniture and mantelpieces, crafted into molding on walls and ceilings, and even cast in gold and silver.

Key Characteristics of Rococo Architecture

The architect enlisted his older brother, the fresco master Johann Baptist, to meticulously paint the interior of this pilgrimage church. If Steinhausen was the first, the 1754 Pilgrimage Church of Wies, shown here, is considered the high point of German Rococo decoration, complete with an allegorical Door of Heaven in the ceiling. This rural Church in the Meadow was again the work of the Zimmerman brothers.

Germain Boffrand, the designer of the Hôtel de Soubise, rose to prominence as one of France’s foremost Rococo architects. Rococo’s showy appeal served as a symbol of style and luxury throughout Europe, especially Austria, Bavaria, and metropolitan towns such as Rome, Saint Petersburg, and Munich. It was customary to round off right angles, and the walls themselves were lined with panels with gilded frames, twisted elements and mirrors. With the help of the latter, the area of the room was visually expanded and distorted. Drapery with floral print fabrics and tapestries were often used instead of panels.

Incorporating the personal collections of her clients with fine art and antiques, contemporary pieces and custom-designed furniture, Suzanne Kasler creates meaningful, timeless interiors. She has also produced signature lines for Ballard Designs, Hickory Chair, and Lee Jofa. Robert Stilin is known for effortlessly combining crisp, clean architecture with custom upholstery, antique and vintage furniture, and modern and contemporary art. Current projects include an oceanfront home in Palm Beach, a farmhouse in Connecticut, and a contemporary estate in Southern California.

The Rococo style – an introduction

For example, furniture might be adorned with asymmetrical scrolls and motifs, and hidden compartments might be integrated into cabinets and tables, adding an element of surprise and delight. Rococo design often uses statues and motifs that aren’t completely serious. A good rococo design will include the elements we mentioned above, but a great one will include an added sense of playfulness, as well. These gentle hues are chosen to make the room feel bigger and lighter. Therefore, they work particularly well in smaller spaces where dark, bold colors may be a bit too much.

The Gothic style had made comparatively little headway in Italy, where it was regarded as barbarous except in some of the more northerly towns, such as Milan and Venice. The style had more or less coincided with a period of primitive commerce. With the Renaissance the complex commercial organization of ancient Rome began to be revived by the towns of Tuscany, especially Florence. Feudalism disappeared, and the bourgeois merchants and financiers of the town rose to power and influence. With the rise of the town and the invention of gunpowder, the fortified country house became obsolete.

The artistic subject not only appealed to private patrons, but its mythologized landscapes and settings met the standards of the Academy which ranked historical painting, including mythological subjects, as the highest category. Gilding was a key contribution of Fontainebleau, providing exquisite splendor to objects as seen in Benevento Cellini's famous Salt Cellar (1543), which Francis I commissioned in gold. The term Rococo is sometimes used to denote the light, elegant, and highly ornamental music composed at the end of the Baroque period—i.e., from the 1740s until the 1770s. The earlier music of Joseph Haydn and of the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart can thus be termed Rococo, although the work of these composers more properly belongs to the emerging Classical style. William Sofield, of Studio Sofield, is a modernist by temperament and a historicist by training. His work is marked by a holistic approach that embraces the necessities of living.

Like other styles that imply clear attraction towards scale, luxury, and hedonism, Rococo is in the shadows today, and you can hardly say that it is popular. However, even today many people are very much in love with its graceful, whimsical, and flirty features. Therefore it is implemented within exclusive design projects for individual houses and apartments. A special approach to the decoration of walls passed from Baroque to Rococo.

Here is a list of characteristics that help describe the style of Rococo buildings. The opposite of Rococo style is Neoclassical, a style of buildings constructed during the revival of Classical Greek and Roman architecture that began around 1750 and flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its antique simplicity was in reaction to the excesses of the Rococo style. Flamboyant Rococo style was supplanted by Neoclassical architecture, which is characterized by grand-scale, simple geometric forms; Greek (especially Doric) or Roman details; dramatic columns; and blank walls. Rococo is based on elegant ornaments, lightness and aesthetics of France.

One of the country’s top decorators, Sheila Bridges creates everything from the handsome Harlem offices of former President Bill Clinton to elegant residential spaces for her New York clientele. She’s also a favorite designer of institutions like Columbia University and Princeton University. New York Cityyounghuh.comDetroit native Young Huh knows all about crafting a room with personality. Huh specializes in both residential and commercial interiors, and her vast knowledge of art and design history makes for timeless interiors. The work of Tom Scheerer includes projects in New York City; East Hampton, N.Y; Nantucket, Mass.; Aspen, Colo.; and the Bahamas.

Although Rococo is often seen as a reaction to the Baroque style, the two share an emphasis on ornamentation and opulence that has led many to call Rococo "Late Baroque." Their difference lies in patronage and context. The Baroque style was used by monarchies to display the might of the nation. For instance, the royal chamber of Versailles is characterized by a combination of red and gold to signify the power and wealth of the king. Baroque style also used classical Greco-Roman motifs more prominently.

Vintage chairs, antique tables, and mid-century modern pieces are all great options that will add personality to your space. Undertaking a restaurant renovation need not be synonymous with a financial strain. By carefully strategizing, leveraging creativity, and paying attention to the minutest of details, you can achieve a remarkable transformation that seamlessly melds with your vision and budget. Ultimately, the success of your renovation lies not solely in the amount you spend but in how intelligently you invest in your restaurant’s enduring prosperity. We guide you through local zoning requirements and coordinate installation with contractors to ensure that your commercial kitchen project is completed on a timely basis and on budget. We contribute solutions every step of the way to ensure your restaurant opens at the highest level of efficiency. For some, starting a restaurant is a creative endeavor, so they prefer to work closely with their general contractor, architect or designer on the design. Some smaller projects like a cafe might not warrant hiring a restaurant designer. Restaurant owners are drawn to the aesthetic because it seems easy and cheap.

Architect-designed furniture

Instead, promote your restaurant, weekly specials, and more with custom design graphics that reflect your restaurant’s concept. But designing a restaurant is easier said than done, especially when you consider that the average restaurant revamp costs a whopping $200-$250 per square foot. Light background music can enhance the atmosphere in a small restaurant, but overly loud music will hinder conversation and make diners uncomfortable. Use both carefully, as they can enhance or disrupt the dining experience depending on how you use them.

Barn-like house

Instead, it would be best to spend some time reviewing your ideas and narrowing down your color palette and materials until you have chosen a few. This will make your spending more targeted and effective, leading to less lavish spending. It would save money and make your customers & staff feel happier and more energized.

That being said, making a small restaurant look beautiful on a shoestring budget is much easier than you might imagine. You can also carve “drive safe” or “see you again” on the door handle. Small gestures will connect you with your guests and ensure repeat customers. Don’t keep a table all bright or other dull as it’ll look un-uniformed. While Wu-Bower and Neroni energetically credit LA’s diversity for their menus, Pingel points out that not everyone is so conscious of California’s melting pot. “These California-style restaurants are serving food they think is Californian,” she says. Mellow tones and distraction-free spaces anesthetize customers, never challenging them to consider the cultural origins of their food, or the people cooking it in the kitchen.

However, the leasing company normally handles repairs and might even provide things like detergent with a dishwasher.

Strategic space planning can optimize seating, improve flow, and maximize the perceived spaciousness of the dining area. Consider using round or oval tables that accommodate more diners while taking up less floor space. Banquette seating along walls saves space and offers a comfortable and intimate dining experience. Pablo Escobar poses for a family photo outside of the White House, 1981

pablo escobar white house

Following his younger brother’s death in 1993, Roberto continued to capitalize on the family name. He’s given “narco tours” in Colombia and even founded a holding company called Escobar, Inc. in 2014. He was forced to return to life as a fugitive after Escobar’s death in 1993.

Hippos

At his zenith, he was the most notorious outlaw on the planet, with control of some eighty per cent of the cocaine entering the U.S. and of a fortune estimated at three billion dollars. In many respects, he remains Colombia’s most famous citizen, a charismatic entrepreneur of boundless ambition who delighted in his Robin Hood image, even as he killed thousands of people to subvert the government. In Colombia, his legacy touches nearly everyone, but few people agree on whether his story should be seen as entertainment or as a cautionary tale. In 2014, Roberto founded a holding company, Escobar, Inc., to license the family name.

Learn how Hacienda Nápoles went from Pablo Escobar's house to a family-friendly theme park in Colombia.

Escobar fought back, falsely accusing the minister of being in the pocket of narcos. But then an influential newspaper editor named Guillermo Cano dug up an old news story showing that Escobar had been arrested, seven years before, for the possession of thirty-nine pounds of cocaine. Escobar was ejected from Congress, and the F.B.I. began investigating him.

Who Is Pablo Escobar, The Notorious 'King Of Cocaine'?.

He somehow keeps trending on social media sites on a regular basis. There were, of course, the “Waiting Pablo Escobar” memes featuring stills from the Netflix series. The iconic White House photo was popular on both Reddit and Imgur, and there’s an endless supply of wall art, coffee mugs, and t-shirts featuring pics of both the drug lord’s vacation photo and mugshot. At the height of his power, Escobar brought in an estimated $420 million a week in revenue, supplied 80% of the world's cocaine, and smuggled 15 tons of cocaine into the US per day. In the picture, there’s little sign of who Escobar actually was.

And about a year and a half later, he was cornered by Colombian forces and died on December 2, 1993, just one day after his 44th birthday. The 1980s also saw an increase in cocaine consumption in the United States, which made Escobar more of a threat to American authorities. But in 1981, Escobar apparently wasn’t considered quite that dangerous — yet.

What Happened to the Famous Colombian Drug Lord?

pablo escobar white house

This would eventually give Escobar the eye-watering estimated net worth of over $30 billion. The noise of dynamite on a sunny day blew out a host of buried memories, welcome and otherwise, among those who’d survived Medellín’s long years of violence. Aurelia Puyo, a female guerrilla who’d grown up upper-class before running away to join the guerillas, allegedly targeted the place in an effort to strike at the heart of the establishment. Escobar had phoned and threatened Horacio not to allow certain politicians into the restaurant. The man seated next to me was 15 years old when he had to leave the city after three of his relatives were kidnapped. “Every night you could hear the bombs and then the sirens.” He told me about the night Escobar blew up a discotheque, killing 25 teenagers.

NEW — Colombia Discovery: Coffee, Art & Music

They kidnapped and killed enemies’ parents, wives and children. After Escobar’s death, the compound was abandoned, its structures ransacked by memento seekers and by treasure hunters pursuing rumors that Escobar had hidden millions of dollars in cash on the property. After being repossessed by the state, Hacienda Nápoles was reopened in 2007, as a theme park with a zoo, a water park, and several family-friendly hotels.

When Gaviria was elected to succeed Barco last year, the Extraditables declared a truce. But after the new president took office and unveiled his plea-bargaining offer, they resumed the war by kidnaping 11 Colombian journalists and killing two of them. Escobar and other traffickers formed the Medellin Cartel in the mid-1970s and turned it into a multinational industry. Colombian officials, who joined in the negotiations for Escobar’s surrender, did not say what crimes the prisoner would confess to or what properties he would hand over. He is to be tried and sentenced by a special court system in which judges remain anonymous to protect them from threats, and most of the proceedings are secret. Three leaders of the cartel’s terrorist squads surrendered with their boss.

I was a 21-year-old Peace Corps volunteer when I fell in love with Medellín and the lush countryside that surrounds it. While there, I helped build a school near what would become one of Escobar’s hideouts, and in 2005 I founded the Marina Orth Foundation, an educational foundation for underserved kids. Today, we teach STEM, robotics, English, and leadership in 21 schools.

In 2016, the government, led by President Juan Manuel Santos, signed a peace treaty with the Marxist guerrilla army known as the FARC, ending a half-century insurgency. In his view, Santos was “a professional traitor,” and the treaty threatened Colombia’s integrity by allowing Communists to run for office. One day, he recalled, some Escobar men began discussing a murder they were planning. “I got up, as if to leave the room, but one of them said, ‘Stay. We trust you.’ I stayed.” Correa realized that he had crossed a line.

That’s the White House’s North Portico, and that means that Escobar and his son are standing on the sidewalk adjacent to Pennsylvania Ave which at the time was open to vehicular traffic. Any pedestrian could walk along the street and pose for a similar photograph – and in fact, you can still do so today, though the fence has gotten higher. The site of the Monaco building will now become a park dedicated to the memory of Escobar’s victims. The park itself will be a stop on a new “Sound Walk” to narrate the stories of those who refused to bow down to evil.

pablo escobar white house

But the Constituent Assembly is debating a sentence reduction for all prisoners that could free him five years earlier. In the days before Escobar’s surrender, the controversy focused on government efforts to make the drug lord feel secure and comfortable in his new home. “To these seven years of persecution, I wish to add all the years of imprisonment necessary to contribute to the peace of my family and the peace of Colombia,” he said. Wearing jeans and a white leather jacket and sporting a beard grown in hiding, the 41-year-old fugitive handed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol to the warden and became the world’s wealthiest prisoner. Witnesses said he was escorted to spacious cell in the ranch-home-style jail in his hometown, the Medellin suburb of Envigado, and was interrogated by the region’s top judicial official, Marta Luz Hurtado. In Medellín’s Montesacro cemetery, I found a fresh bouquet of pastel-colored flowers in a vase next to Escobar’s tomb.

Allegedly fearful that her father’s enemies will take revenge, Manuela has become something of a recluse and hasn’t been seen publicly in years. Pablo Escobar met his wife, Maria Victoria Henao, when she was just 12 years old and he was 23. Henao called the much older Escobar the “love of her life,” and they got married three years later when she was 15. Born on December 1, 1949, in Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia, Pablo Escobar grew up in a suburb of Medellín called Envigado.

The Story Behind Pablo Escobar in front of The White House

pablo escobar white house

Extradition was a huge blow to the narcos who had achieved something like impunity through their murderous intimidation tactics and attempts to undermine the Colombian judicial system. Alfonso had also declined to donate his own money to the right-wing militias fighting to protect ranchers’ large landholdings from the FARC. Those militias later became paramilitary death squads and drug traffickers in their own right. Finally, after he was kidnapped, he refused to deed one of his ranches to his captors. When his family learned of his death, several weeks later, they had to pay a large ransom just for a map showing where his body was buried. In Argentina, Juan Pablo worked as an architect, but in recent years he has made a second career of rehabilitating the family’s reputation.

The notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar challenged authorities once again in 1981 by posing for a photograph in front of the White House in Washington, DC. The photograph shows Pablo Escobar and his son Juan Pablo Escobar. He took this photo while traveling with his family to Disneyland. Officially, a special Colombian task force organized to find Pablo Escobar, known as Search Bloc, killed the drug kingpin.

After the drug lord was shot and killed by Colombian police in 1993, the Escobar family found themselves at odds with the Colombian government over the ownership of Hacienda Nápoles. A 1989 memo by then-Defense Secretary Dick Cheney defined anti-drug activities as a “high-priority security mission,” clearing the way for the U.S. military to operate in Colombia. The jetliner bombing that same year allowed the first Bush administration to redefine Escobar as an international terrorist and covertly abet his assassination. The death squad, Los Pepes, which wrecked Escobar’s organization by killing as many as six of his supporters a day, had troubling links both to Martinez’s police and to the rival Cali cartel, whose clout in Colombia rose as Escobar’s fell.

Clowning for Novices: History and Practice With Rose Carver

The family plot is situated in a prominent spot next to the chapel, and flanked by graceful cypresses. On a slab of black marble, gold script spelled out “Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria, December 1, 1949–December 2, 1993.” El Patrón had turned forty-four the day before his death. His parents were buried alongside him, as was his bodyguard Limón, who was with him when he died. The narcoturistas are coming to Colombia in part because the country is experiencing unusual stability, after decades of vicious fighting.

The classic pablo escobar white house image received widespread attention on Reddit and Imgur, and there are countless pieces of wall art, coffee mugs, and t-shirts with images of the drug lord’s trip and detention photos. His parents’ names were Abel de Jesus Escobar Echeverri and Hermilda Gaviria. Pablo’s father Abel was a farmer & his mother Hermilda was a school teacher. Pablo had a son named Juan Pablo Escobar which was seen on pablo escobar white house photo image His wife’s name was Maria Victoria, later on, she changed her name to Sebastian Marroquin.

His crimes were heinous and led to thousands of deaths, but to many, he was a modern-day “Robin Hood.” An estimated 25,000 people attended his funeral. This infamous photo shows Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in front of the White House. People believe the image is from around 1981, though there’s no exact date. Then, Escobar entered a prison in Medellín that he had designed himself called La Catedral. And unlike most prisoners, Escobar was able to continue conducting cartel business from behind bars. Born in 1949 in Colombia, Pablo Escobar grew up in a suburb near Medellín.

In the 1982 parliamentary election, Escobar was elected as an alternate member of the Chamber of Representatives as part of the Liberal Alternative movement. Through this, he was responsible for community projects, such as the construction of houses and football fields, which gained him popularity among the locals of the towns that he frequented.

They were identified as John Jairo Velazquez, known as Popeye; Otniel Gonzalez, alias Otto, and Carlos Aguilar. Two young men stood quietly in front of Escobar’s tomb, occasionally murmuring in French. At last, one of them walked to a marble bench opposite the tomb and sat in a pose of reverent contemplation.

Marroquín himself spent 45 days behind bars before being found not guilty of any wrongdoing. He then moved to Buenos Aires where he lived in relative peace – or did until the Netflix show revived interest in his story. There are thousands of victims [in Colombia] who deserve respect. The show creates a culture where being a drug trafficker is cool. Young people all around the world write to me saying they want to be drug dealers and asking for help. They write to me as if I was selling tickets for entry into this world,” says an angry Marroquín.

Known for wreaking havoc on the local environment, they’re sometimes viewed as a testament to their previous owner’s legacy. By the 2010s, a private company had taken control of the land and began operating the Parque Temático Hacienda Nápoles, a tourist destination for all ages that includes a water park, a butterfly farm, and museums. In 2006, Hacienda Nápoles was valued at 5 billion pesos (which was the equivalent of around $2.23 million). At the time, the estate had just been declared the property of the Colombian state. Today, most of the hippos reside on or near the property of Hacienda Nápoles, but some have made their way into the Magdelena River basin, a major waterway that cuts through the western half of Colombia.

He’s estimated to have been responsible for the deaths of some 4,000 people, including police officers, government officials, journalists, ordinary citizens, and members of rival cartels. HBO’s Sins of My Father tells the story of the drug kingpin not just as a crime lord but also as a father. The photo unearthed by the documentary was taken by Escobar’s wife Maria Victoria. It could be any family vacation souvenir if you weren’t familiar with its subject. The Colombian kingpin holds his young son’s arm in front of the White House fence, standing in the open on the public Pennsylvania Street sidewalk.

Both the imagined scene and the real killings took place in La Catedral, the prison where Escobar was held after striking a deal to turn himself in, in 1991. An unused drug-rehabilitation center that was renovated to house Escobar, La Catedral occupied a secluded spot on the forested edges of the Envigado plateau, with spectacular views of Medellín. In the deal, Escobar agreed to spend a few years there, in exchange for the government’s commitment not to extradite him to the United States. The prison did little to restrain him; his sicarios served as guards, and he remained involved in the cocaine trade. The key intermediary for his surrender was Rafael García Herreros, an octogenarian priest who had previously accepted Escobar’s gift of a “very beautiful hacienda” on behalf of his church, and had gone on television to insist that he had done nothing wrong. “When one fulfills the will of God, there is no corruption,” he said.

The herd, which began with three females and a male bought from a California zoo, is now believed to contain as many as fifty, making it the largest herd living freely outside Africa. As the estate fell into disrepair, several of them wandered off and found new habitat. One of the hippos was discovered in the nearby town of Doradal. As it lumbered down the street, children dodged around it, shrieking; the locals joked about making the hippo a mascot. Several family groups have migrated into the nearby Magdalena River system. Colombian authorities suggested a hunt to cull the hippos before they upset the local ecosystem or become a danger to humans, but after a public outcry the matter was dropped.

33 Beige Bedroom Ideas That Will Warm Up Your Space

beige bedroom design

Good lighting is essential when using neutral themes, as they can be the deciding factor between a bedroom that is boring and a bedroom that is elegant. Floor rugs and bed throws are essentials during the winter months, and they can be bought in beige shades that vary slightly from the tone you have chosen for your walls. You could stick to a monochrome feel, or you could add color as well to highlight your room.

Embrace natural materials

We bring to you inspiring visuals of cool homes, specific spaces, architectural marvels and new design trends. You could also place candles and low-height tables to create an enchanting corner with your mirror. Blue accents on pillow covers, artwork, and much more do a fantastic job of adding a minimal amount of color to help tie the room together. When you have a small bedroom, you may have to get creative with your room design to ensure pieces make a statement without taking up a ton of room. ‘Beige is a calming color and brings warmth to a space that you cannot achieve with grey,’ says founder Cherie Lee.

Hang an Ornate Textured Gold Leaf Mirror

The wood french doors and windows are gorgeous and they are the true showstopper in this beige bedroom. This bedroom has touches of farmhouse with the weathered dresser and wood nightstands, but it also commands elegance with the canopy bed, victorian armchair and custom drapes. I love the large duck art, adds some dark whimsy and the gorgeous black french doors and windows compliment the design so well. The touch of brown velvet lumbar pillows and beige flat-weave rug adds extra warmth to the room. I love the grasscloth wrapped walls and the wood beam ceiling, it shows a natural element to this sophisticated room. You’ll notice the room has a multi-purpose with the desk off to left of bed and the chaise bench for lounging.

Cozy Rug Under-Bed Ideas To Not Step On Cold Floors!

The mirror will reflect the beige hues, enhancing the brightness and spacious feel of the room. This timeless, elegant shade creates a soothing vibe that promotes relaxation and self-care. Unlike stark white, beige offers just enough color to warm up a space while still maintaining a light, airy feel. When paired with natural textiles and accessories, it creates a cozy but still sophisticated retreat. It's also a popular color choice for bedroom spaces, given that many people wish for their sleep spaces to be neutral and serene. If you're wondering how to best design a beige bedroom of your own, don't miss out on the 33 timeless ideas below.

Mix Lights like Beige with Bright White

These newer interiors reflect a panoply of influences — 1930s French modernism, contemporary Belgian rusticity, louche ’70s glam and the primary-colored geometry of ’80s Memphis. An emphasis on vintage pieces, reclaimed materials and green building indicate a growing eco-consciousness, just as incorporating the craft of local artisans celebrates uniqueness and authenticity. The neutrality of beige offers you a massive amount of design possibilities especially when you love a modern bedroom. This is due to the many different shades of beige that ranges from soft yellow tint to distinct yellow brightness when you alter beige to suit your style.

Beige Bedroom Ideas That Are Full of Style

Darker neutral colors such as black and brown work particularly well for those looking to keep a scheme neutral with depth. When thinking about bedroom paint ideas it's important to factor in the size and orientation of a room. In small bedrooms which are north facing, a light beige will bring warmth and brighten up the space. In this scheme by Thurstan, bespoke built-in wardrobes have been painted in the same color as the walls to help them blend in and create the illusion of space. The color brightens the space, making it light and airy, and compliments the look you are going for. Glamorous primary bedroom boasts a pink patterned bed and gray chaise lounge over a velvet rug.

The Beige Wood furnishings

It has window seat nook fitted with a brown cushion and filled with neutral color throw pillows. When you opt for beige bedroom walls and also have beige bedroom furniture, nothing is stopping you from adding trendy and colorful accents to pop color. Beige has the potential to be bland when not used correctly and changing your bedroom each season is difficult and pricy. Hanging light fixtures in gold metallic tones are an excellent replacement for regular side table lamps.

In addition to having overhead lighting, you can also use lamps to create a dynamic nuance. We love these dual gourd-shaped lamps in a charcoal finish, weathered for authentic chic rusticness. Then you can add a modern bench, a Boho art print on the wall, and sleek pedestal end tables in a raw golden bronze or brushed nickel finish.

Experiment with different hues, combining lighter and darker tones to create a nuanced and harmonious look. This feature will not only provide comfort but also unify the color scheme in the room, creating a cohesive look. If you love decorating with antiques and printed fabrics as part of an eclectic bohemian decor scheme then try a warm beige as a base color. This small-scale floral design set on a neutral backdrop has a distinct arts and crafts decor feel and brings a pretty dose of gentle pattern to this guest bedroom designed by And Studio. Layering texture is important when decorating with neutrals to prevent spaces feeling lifeless, but it is even more so in a bedroom where coziness and comfort are essential. White is often used as you can blend so many colors and décor with its neutrality.

The unique design of the foot bench and cone light pendant is what Parisian design is all about. The walls look like they are paneled fabric and the custom drapes look like an extension of the walls. If you have beige bedroom walls your furniture could be the way to add beautiful color. Be careful though not to create a dull beige design where everything is bland. The design and color like dark wood or colorful furniture could be what you need to create a warm space that is inviting.

Full-length mirrors, circular halo mirrors for your dressing table, and heavily decorated golf-framed mirrors perfectly complement your beige bedroom interiors. Minimal use of blue makes it a modern beige bedroom that can always be changed and upgraded to suit your ever-changing needs. Lighter tones of brown and dark black furniture can be used as accents in your space. When you don’t want to go for themes like the sunflower bedrooms and others, all it takes is a pop of this bright color. The beveled glass mirror features a textured frame in a bright gold leaf that you can hang on the wall vertically or horizontally for a sensational appeal for any room design. Then finish the design with rope lamps, light wood end tables, and a tufted upholstered headboard.

With its graphic shapes in a mix of black, cream and beige tones, this Reclaim Reversible Monochrome fabric from Kirkby design makes a statement while still adhering to the neutral palette. Luxurious primary bedroom accented with a navy blue round bed and modern fireplace with the platform. If you have space and you have a large bedroom window the natural light will play a big role in allowing natural light in. At night you do not want to turn your bedroom into a dull space with dark corners. Use a combination of pendant and recessed lights to brighten the beige bedroom. Beige bedrooms can hold a great personality and with the addition of hues, you can create depth.

The Complete Guide to Visiting Cozumel on a Cruise

map of cozumel cruise port

Brain and star corals, sea fans, anemones, and sponges are common sights while diving. You’re also likely to come across damselfish, queen angelfish, and spotted moray eels. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a seahorse or scorpion fish. Paradise Reef is shallower and more beginner-friendly when compared to other reefs on the island, with a maximum depth of around 40 ft (12 m). If you’re lucky, you might even spot a spotted eagle ray, octopus, or nurse shark. Located right next to Palancar Reef, Colombia Reef is a beautiful reef known for its incredible, colorful coral formations.

Despite the somewhat high cost of an ATV or dune buggy tour, it’s an excellent option for individuals who like to explore at their own pace. The cave entrance is approximately a 1-hour ferry trip away from Cozumel, followed by a minute drive. Your cruise line is likely to offer an excursion to Río Secreto.

Where You're Docked

While some small beaches exist in this area, the larger and nicer ones are on the southwest side of the island and on the eastern shore. While most people just call everything on the island Cozumel, the main city that you will no doubt visit is called San Miguel. Home to about 80,000 people, San Miguel is a bustling medium-sized town, and gets especially busy when cruise ships are docked (which swells the population of the island). If your cruise ship docks in Punta Langosta, the town of San Miguel is right across the street from the pier.

Cozumel is a shoppers paradise and the cruise companies will no doubt sell hard about where to get the best deals and supply booklets of vouchers for discounts. Of course, they want you to visit those shops for a reason and those discounts are no doubt built into the asking prices. There are many festivals held in Cozumel, so it’s worth checking to see if anything is on whilst you are in port. Big annual events include Carnaval de Cozumel which is normally held in February, The 150-year-old El Cedral festival held in May in the village of Cedral and the famous Day of the Dead in November.

They also have free wi-fi if you need to connect to check on things back home. You can walk on your own or join guided walking tour in the city. If you want to rent a car, the closest offices are 5 blocks from the cruise ship pier. Most people gravitate towards the west side of Cozumel because of San Miguel, the many beach clubs, and all the three cruise ports along the coast. The ferry port is not far from downtown, so hopping on the ferry to see some more sights in Mexico might make sense if you have time during your cruise. Some excursions also require a ferry ride to the mainland to see Mayan Ruins or explore scenic caves.

Current local time in Cozumel, Mexico

Activities include snorkeling & diving, swimming with the dolphins, scuba, and Seatrek. When cruise ships anchor, tender boats will moor at smaller piers next to Puerta Maya or the International Pier. At the height of the Caribbean Season - between November and March, in particular - the port of Cozumel may be visited by over 8 cruise ships. Most travelers cruising to Cozumel for the first time do not realize immediately that the cruise ship will be docked at one of many piers. Other popular beaches are Paradise Beach, Playa Palancar, Playa Mia. Cozumel features several great resorts / eco-parks, often included in cruise lines' shore excursion offerings.

Cozumel tourist attractions

If you want to get around Cozumel, then you’re likely going to take a taxi. Cabs are at each port as you exit and cruise up and down all the tourist hotspots. If you’re anywhere that tourists go, you’ll be able to hail a cab whenever the ships are in port. Just behind that sign is a spot to access the water if you want to swim with the cruise ships in the background.

Royal Caribbean, Mexico from Tampa, February 9, 2025

Tipping is not mandatory in Cozumel but is appreciated for good service. In restaurants, a small tip of around 10-15% of the total bill for good service is customary. It’s also common to tip hotel staff and taxi drivers for good service, with a small amount per day or ride being appropriate. Nestled off the northeastern coast of Mexico’s state of Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula, Cozumel is an island of cheerful people, salsa vibes, stunning nature, and rich Mayan cultural heritage.

The pier can accommodate up to two ships at a time and is typically used by smaller vessels. Holland & America cruise ships usually dock at Punta Langosta, but other ships may also use this terminal on occasion. The largest vessels (including Royal Caribbean and NCL ships) dock at International Pier.

Both terminals are around 3 miles south of San Miguel, the main city of Cozumel. As you can see on the map above, there are 3 Cruise Terminals in Cozumel. The terminal in Punta Langosta is right by San Miguel's southern end and only has one pier. Likewise, the International Terminal only has one main pier and a smaller one for tender boats.

Even if you just want to rent or bring along some snorkeling gear you will want to check out these pristine waters at one of the many coral reef locations. Both International Pier and Puerta Maya are about 3 miles from San Miguel, but it is a safe and scenic walk to the downtown area which I have done a few times. Taxis are cheap, but if you have extra time the walk is doable. Now that you know everything you need to know about your port. Just remember to wear a lot of sunscreen if you plan on walking from pier to pier.

If you’re on a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruise ship, most likely you’ll be here. Punta Langosta is the OG of Cozumel cruise piers and is the typical porting spot for Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruises to Cozumel, as well as several smaller cruise lines. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, this guide to Cozumel Cruise Port will provide you with all the information you need to make the most of your time on the island.

Hang out on a beautiful beach under a palapa, or near one of the two pools. Eat and drink to your heart’s content, or just swing in a hammock. With millions of American tourists each year, there is a definite American influence on the island.

If you plan to relax, you’ll find umbrellas and chairs available, though there’s a requirement to make a purchase at the restaurant or pay a fee for their use. Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park provides a variety of entertaining activities for people of all ages, as well as numerous facilities and dining options. As the evening progresses, the beach provides a great setting to witness a beautiful sunset. If you want to taste some authentic, genuine Mexican and Caribbean cuisine, consider stopping by Casa Denis. It’s a family-owned restaurant with a good amount of outdoor seating. As you explore the vibrant streets, treat yourself to some eye-catching local handicrafts, home-made beauty products, and traditional textiles that might be perfect keepsakes or gifts for loved ones back home.

In fact, if you have a great reef to check out please let us know in the comment section below this post. We will add it to the list if it looks good so everyone else can benefit. If you want to take a taxis in Cozumel it is easy and affordable.

You can even add on horseback riding, parasailing, and the use of a wave runner. Mr. Sanchos Beach Club, located about 20 minutes from downtown San Miguel, offers an all-inclusive day pass to travelers looking to get the most out of the relaxing beach life in Cozumel. What’s the number one thing you should do when visiting Cozumel? If you’re looking to enjoy a full beach/pool day, there are a ton of beach clubs from which to choose.

A bigger caveat, perhaps, is that these solo cabins have become so popular they often sell out far in advance and at prices that aren't much better than booking a cabin for two. Having sailed in one of Norwegian Epic's cabins for one, I can confidently declare them among the coolest solo digs at sea. I particularly love the "Jetsons" futuristic-style design and the multicolored mood lighting. Indeed, the ship often is at the top of the list when you sort cruises by lowest price on Norwegian's website.

Aboard Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, for example, you can expect to find varying levels of accommodations, including suites, balcony rooms, virtual balcony rooms, ocean view rooms and interior rooms. With so many different companies to choose from — each with its own ships, entertainment, destinations and personality — finding the cruise experience that fits your needs can take some research. The Eastern Caribbean Islands are great to visit all year round but peak season for an Eastern Caribbean Cruise is usually from December through April as travelers try to escape the winter months and find warmer weather. The weather in the Eastern Caribbean Islands are usually around the mid 70 F to high 90 F throughout the year. Always make sure to check ahead of time for island conditions and pack appropriately for your Caribbean cruise. Sailing from Port Canaveral, the world’s busiest port in terms of cruise arrivals, Norwegian Epic will begin sailing on October 30, 2024 and offer multiple 7-day itineraries in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

Also, Norwegian Prima will sail from Galveston, Texas, Norwegian Viva from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Norwegian Jewel from Tampa, Florida. NCL cabin categories come in an impressive range, even on the smaller ships. The sizes are typical of industry standards, though balconies on the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus Classes are notably small (226 square feet). The sailings in and out of Buenos Aires and Melbourne, all on the longer side, will offer in-depth explorations of the southern half of South America (Argentina, Uruguay and Chile) and New Zealand, respectively. For older travelers looking for a Norwegian ship that isn't filled to the gills with children, Norwegian Sun is the perfect option.

There is no giant water park on its top deck or a go-kart track to keep the kids busy all day, so it's not the best Norwegian Cruise Line ship for families. Royal Caribbean doesn’t just have more ships — it has bigger ones, too. The cruise line’s largest ship, the Wonder of the Seas, has room for 5,734 guests. The Icon of the Seas, a new ship that will launch in 2024, will carry a maximum of 5,610 guests across its 20 decks. Be the first to sail The Caribbean on board Norwegian Prima, our first ship in the new Prima class. Cruise from Galveston, Texas starting and experience incredible ports like Harvest Caye, Belize; Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's Private Island; or explore your A-B-C's in Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao.

The first two Breakaway-class ships entered service in 2013 and 2014 as Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway. On October 17, 2012, Meyer Werft and Norwegian reached a second agreement for the construction of two new vessels,[36] slated for delivery in October 2015 and 2017, respectively. The project was under the code name "Breakaway Plus Class", with the vessels expected to be 163,000 gross tons and hold 4,200 passengers. They’re built to host a whole bunch of amenities, including pools, live entertainment, spas, fitness centers, casinos, lounges, bars, clubs, shops and more. Both Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean offer a multitude of dining options, especially on their newest ships.

That's why we've compiled this in-depth breakdown of two of the most popular cruise lines -- Norwegian Cruise Line vs. Royal Caribbean. Before repositioning to New Orleans, she will sail a series of Greek Island and Turkey cruises from Athens. Royal Caribbean has transformed CocoCay into much more than just a simple island where you sit and relax on the beach. The island now includes Thrill  Waterpark with more than a dozen waterslides, a wave pool, 1,600 feet of ziplines, over-the-water bungalows, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, a beach club, and an adults-only area. Similar to Royal Caribbean’s ships, the company has gone “big” with its private island. Norwegian — after making huge strides in this area with ships like Norwegian Bliss, Joy, and Encore — is taking a different track.

Plus, with every new ship, the line expands its inclusions (some of which cost extra). Some Norwegian ships have slightly crowded pool decks (Breakaway Class, Norwegian Epic), but they make up for the congestion with a wide variety of bonus water features. Pool deck attractions aboard Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are plentiful, particularly aboard their newest and largest ships. Royal Caribbean sails out of 16 homeports on the North American mainland seasonally to year-round. Royal Caribbean itinerary options include the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii.

Norwegians's second and third ship, the Starward and Skyward, were the first newly built ships designed for the cruise line.[5] Like the original Sunward of 1966, they had the capability to carry automobiles through a well-concealed stern door. Later, this area was turned into cabins and a two-deck movie theater, later to be used as a casino. Norwegian was responsible for many of the cruise innovations that have now become standard throughout the industry.

In February 2016, Norwegian ordered 4 new ships from Fincantieri under the codename Project Leonardo, to be delivered in 2022–2025. In July 2018, NCL confirmed that they had ordered 2 more ships to be delivered in 2026–27. On December 9, 2019, the keel of the first ship was laid down and named Norwegian Prima. It was launched in August 2021 and commenced sailing in the same month of 2022. The second ship was named Norwegian Viva in early 2022 and expected to be completed by 2023.

Norwegian has some vessels, such as Norwegian Encore, that are loaded with family-friendly attractions such as waterparks and go-kart tracks that are perfect for families with teens and tweens. To me, Norwegian Encore is an even better choice than Norwegian Prima for families with school-age kids. But now, the cruise line is moving more toward luxury with its newest ship (more on this below), seeming to cede the “bigger and more activities” crown to its rival.

Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. One of two ships in the line's Sun class that date to the turn of the millennium, Norwegian Sky is far from the snazziest ship in the Norwegian fleet. At 77,104 tons and carrying 1,944 passengers, it's just half the size of Norwegian's biggest ships and has far fewer venues, from bars and restaurants to entertainment spaces.

Royal’s Central Park on many ships is an outdoor space featuring trees and foliage, but it is walled off from the ocean with decks that tower above. Check out the message boards for Royal Caribbean and you’re likely to hear a lot about Platinum, Diamond, and Pinnacle status in the Crown and Anchor Society. These are levels of the cruise line’s loyalty program, which indicate how many days you’ve sailed with them.
